Review: Flamboyant

Flamboyant hotel is a boutique hotel in Diani, Kenya, located between 40 Thieves Beach bar and Sky Dive Diani.  http://flamboyant.co/. My previous experience here was a few years back when I was a guest at a wedding.  This time, Martin and I stayed for 3 nights.

Booking

Wayne, the Manager of Flamboyant was very responsive and had us booked in right away, despite it being a last minute booking. We were given the superior room for 1 night before moving to the standard room for the following 2.

Checking in

Unfortunately the service was not fantastic to begin with. While we were early checking in due to the arrival of our flight, we were left waiting on the sofas with no idea what was happening for about 20- 30 minutes. Unfortunately we were not communicated with effectively until we asked what the hold up was- the room was not ready-. While we fully appreciate that, if we were told there would be a delay, we wouldn’t have minded so much.

The rooms

The superior room turned out to be the honeymoon suite. It was large, had a great view, a fridge, safe and large shower with two shower heads and two sinks.

The standard room was also very nice, but much smaller in comparison.

All in all, you don’t spend that much time in your room, so it really didn’t matter.

The service

All in all the service was good. The atmosphere here is very laid back and relaxed, and it comes across with all staff members. We mainly dealt with the bar tender who was lovely.

The food

We were on a bed and breakfast package. We were served fruit first, then eggs of choice with small accompaniments. It was nothing special, but nothing to complain about.

Overall verdict

It’s a very laid back, casual atmosphere. The price is very reasonable and it’s in a prime location. It is beach front with a nice swimming pool, and is next door to Diani’s most popular beach bar. If you’re a sky diver, this is probably your best bet too as you’re right next door and no doubt will meet another sky diver staying there too.

It is not the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at, but if you want something small, quiet, calm, well located and that wont break the bank, this is the one.

Cost: 11,000 per double bed and breakfast per night
